Moissanite is a brilliant lab-created gemstone composed of silicon carbide (SiC), originally discovered in 1893 by French chemist Henri Moissan within an Arizona meteorite. With a remarkable Mohs hardness of 9.25—second only to diamond—and an exceptionally high refractive index (2.65-2.69) and dispersion (0.104), it exhibits dazzling fire and brilliance, often surpassing diamond in sparkle. While natural moissanite is extremely rare, modern synthesis techniques produce high-quality, eco-friendly alternatives that are widely used in jewelry, offering a budget-friendly yet stunning option for engagement rings and fashion accessories.

Available in colorless (D-F grade) and near-colorless (G-I) varieties, moissanite’s double refraction creates a unique visual depth, distinguishing it from diamond. Its lightweight density (3.22 g/cm³) and resistance to scratches make it ideal for daily wear, while ethical sourcing and affordability have cemented its popularity among conscious consumers. Whether as a diamond alternative or a statement piece, moissanite combines science, sustainability, and scintillating beauty.
