Aquamarine is the green-blue to blue variety of the mineral beryl. Known for its clarity, this gemstone's value derives from its vividly transparent hues. Its famed watery color is caused by the trace element iron - the more intense the blue, the more a stone is worth. 

In nature, aquamarine crystals can grow extraordinarily large and clear. A great example is the Dom Pedro displayed at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

The most valuable aqua is mined from Brazil and Pakistan, but can be found in areas of Africa and Asia as well.
